UK Power Reserve charges ahead with 60MW battery storage

Construction has started on the first phase of a 120MW energy storage project in the UK.

UK Power Reserve has partnered with Fluence, a joint venture between Siemens and AES, which will supply three 20MW battery systems to sites in the Midlands and North West England.

All three facilities - with a total capacity of 60MW - are expected to start operating in winter 2018/19, providing extra capacity to the UK grid.

Sam Wither, Head of UK Power Reserve believes battery storage will play an “important part enabling the smart, flexible energy system of the future”.

The company was recently bought by Sembcorp Industries, a utility, marine and urban development group.
