Switzerland allocates £38m for solar initiatives

Switzerland's Federal Office of Energy has allocated an additional CHF46 million (£38m) for new photovoltaic (PV) systems.

The funding aims to support the expansion of PV technologies despite the coronavirus crisis, which has caused many building owners to postpone their investment decisions.

The grants come from the network surcharge fund - all Swiss electricity consumers pay a grid surcharge of 2.3 centimes (£2p) per kWh consumed.

It says funds will be available in addition to the already existing quota of CHF330 million (£275m) for one-off payments for small and large photovoltaic systems.

This special contribution is expected to benefit not only those who order these systems but also local planners and installers.
