Tesla Model 3 with integrated solar panel hits the Dutch roads

Tech company Lightyear, which specialises in manufacturing solar electric cars has launched a Tesla Model 3 with a solar roof.

This is one of the two research vehicles that will hit Dutch streets in a bid to investigate the value of integrated solar technology in cars.

The second research vehicle is a Volkswagen Crafter LCV.

The vehicles are expected to provide data on vibration impact and waterproofness.

This research is deemed crucial to ensure future solar systems developed by the company will be sustainable enough for vehicles, which will utilise solar roofs.

It will also allow the company to find a place for solar cars in the fastest-growing electric vehicle (EV) market.

Four years ago, our sister platform ELN visited Paris Motor Show and had a look at the new Toyota Prius concept solar car.
