BrewDog commits to making all its employees carbon-negative

Craft beer brewer BrewDog has unveiled ambitious plans to double offset the carbon footprint of all its employees, making it the world's first employer to ensure all of its team members are carbon-negative.

The company has introduced an employee perk, enabling its so-called 'Carbon-Negative Crew' to calculate their carbon footprint and track it using a mobile app, Pawprint.

They will provide information about their lifestyle, including utilities, travel and food consumption, following which BrewDog will calculate the total footprint of its 2,000-strong global workforce and begin double offsetting it immediately by supporting gold-standard carbon offset programmes approved by its carbon consultant and scientific advisor Mike Berners-Lee.

Employees will also work with Mr Berners-Lee, who will give them regular tips on how to reduce their impact on the planet.

The news follows BrewDog's achievement of becoming the world's first carbon-negative brewery - this is reducing its carbon footprint to less than neutral so it has a net effect of removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere rather than adding it.

The company has also launched its 2,000-acre BrewDog Forest, where it has committed to plant more than one million trees.

James Watt, Co-founder of BrewDog said: “We are proud to be the world’s first carbon-negative beer business and one of the very first businesses to offset the carbon footprint of all of its employees (and their dogs).

“Our commitment to sustainability is an integral part of our business across our entire operation and means BrewDog both as a company and as individuals are having a massively positive impact on the planet and helping drive the change that our world so badly needs.”
