JetBlue commits to achieving net zero emissions by 2040

JetBlue has committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2040 and has set medium-term and short-term Environmental Social Governance (ESG) targets.

The American airline has pledged to increase its use of renewable energy and hold its business partners accountable for their sustainability measures.

In 2020, it became one of the first American airlines to achieve carbon-neutrality for all domestic flights, using offsets.

Its new ESG targets include decreasing direct aircraft emissions by 25% per available seat mile by 2030 from 2015 levels - it aims to deliver this without the use of carbon offsets.

It has committed to 10% of its total jet fuel coming from sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by 2030 and to increase fleet electrification.

It has also targeted eliminating single-use plastics for its cutlery used on planes and to only use recyclable plastic where this is not possible, as well as maintaining an 80% recycling rate for domestic flights.
